“Oh Happy Days!”

On Friday 11th July, CLC organised a Social event to bring the National Community together, as well as partners, former members and friends to enjoy a summer open-air activity in aid of CLC Ethiopia.

The evening was well attended with over 100 adults and nearly 30 children – spanning all generations and practically all communities.  It was an atmosphere that combined serious chat with a jovial sense of belonging – having a good laugh at ourselves while looking back over the years with the help of photos of years gone by... with the running commentary to make sure we don’t lose out on any details!

The ambience provided by the backdrop of the gardens of St. Aloysius College and the people that were just bubbling with sheer joy to be together, allowed the evening to turn out into a truly relaxing and ‘let-your-hair-loose’ type of event.

The food prepared by some communities as well as Inspirations of St. James Cavalier, (who incidentally donated a further €60) and the drinks (€35 of which were donated by S. Rausi including plastic cups for all and 120 small bottles of water donated by Farsons) was tasty and abundant.

The entertainment included a treasure hunt for the older children and games for the younger lot. The karaoke gave people the chance to feel free with their talents and this helped to build parent-child participation – the future of CLC!

Of course, the hospitality of the Jesuits and the efforts made by so many people to bring things together was commendable ...even when hardly anyone brought his own cutlery, plates etc as was suggested.....still, the CLCers’ generosity showed up with people quick on the draw, seeking a fast solution, some going to their nearby homes to collect whatever plates they could muster up.  It was quite an act of ‘going beyond the line of duty’ so typically characteristic of us CLCers.

The money collected after all expenses were paid amounted to €540 - a very handsome sum indeed to be passed on to our fellow CLCers in Ethiopia.  Fr. Joe Cassar s.j. will be receiving the donation shortly.

Sincere thanks go to all the people who participated and helped out in this event especially Lucienne Fenech for co-ordinating all the details to make it a truly memorable evening for all.  Well done to everyone!
