Mass with refugees and migrants – Bethel’s experience

As a group we feel very concerned about the increasing hostility, which is most prominent in online comment boards, we perceive in Maltese society towards asylum seekers and migrants. Our concern led us to hold a meeting in which we used Pope Francis’ homily in Lampedusa earlier this summer as the focus point for our discussion. One feeling that emerged in our discussion was of being overwhelmed by the hostility and even hatred we see around us. We felt that a way of responding to this is to seek to be with migrants and to accompany them as they try to rebuild their lives. To quote Pope Francis, we felt that this could be our response as a group to God’s question to Cain: ‘Where is your brother?’.

News from Young CLC

The Young CLCs have been active in a number of events in the last weeks. Early in September, Mount St Joseph invited a group of young CLCers to withdraw from their busy lives for a 'gardening weekend' and several young CLCers took an active part in TWEMBJENT 2013, a festival at Bormla Waterfront which included stands presenting different aspects of the environment and its relationship with Faith, Holy Mass, and a concert. Read also about  a community Mass for young CLCers (of age and of spirit) which is being organised once a month on Sundays at the University Chaplaincy.
